Writing to respond

Dear Ms Samantha Taylor,

I do not agree with Franzen’s overall ideas about teenagers and their reliance on social media; it’s not corrupting our future generations. However, I do believe teenagers are sometimes reliant on it. Yes, there is a danger of addiction but it is part of the modern society and needs to be worked with.

In the modern IT business world, social media is the king. Youths have the courage to express themselves when they’re facing the screen, however, they do not express themselves with the same fluency in their everyday lives. Popular Social Media website such as; Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram etc, have a negative effect. Teenagers are often not using the social media websites appropriately. The popular media website are what makes elders express their views quickly and I personally think some of them are judging the book by its cover too quickly. Teenagers these days do things without thinking, and personally that causes a lot of chaos. There are plenty of negative views because of cyber bullying and its huge ripple effect. Youths are contemplating suicide and it is a growing problem. In some cases, teenagers are afraid of the outside world because they are not as popular on social media compared to the real world. I personally think boys find it easier to communicate with girls when they’re face to face on a screen, but it seems that boys are scared to do what they do on social media and use their confidence to talk to girls face to face. This proves if you use social media it can become very addictive.

Some adults believe Teenagers are unable to function and multi-task, and social media in some way distracts teenagers from concentrating on the more necessary things. Social media has a servere effect on the future generation. Many of my friends waste their hours looking at new gossip and unnecessary things. A lot of adults have negative views about social media because it’s affecting the future generation even though teenagers are not using social media properly. Currently, in this century youths are focusing more on famous people and trying to act more like them. This makes them lazy because all they want to achieve is money and fame. Teenagers want to take the easier route to reach their goal knowing that it’s never going to happen. Rarely, this generation is not willing to put their sweat and blood to achieve their goals. Which makes them docile.

The modern technology is simple and advanced, adults should realize that there are cons about social media. Everyday social network is advancing and is becoming more useful. Advanced technology is the way forward. Teens would be able to do homework on social media because they would be more interacted by doing revision and completing homework. The most important thing is, it’s free to use and no charges are included, the future generation is more advance in the new technology business and this is a positive advantage. There is so much variety and option on social media, which can educate the teens to excel to their expectation. The adults should not rush into conclusion about media channels, however, open their eyes to see the digital world and see that it would help teenagers significantly. Teenagers are able to express themselves on communication channels which are beneficial, therefore, they are not scared to hide behind their couch. Teenagers would find it a lot harder to feel embarrass, and step at a time the young adults would find it easier to express their true colours in the outside world. Another con is it’s easier to keep in touch with family and friends for free, especially if they live a distance away from you. Social media can help you to relax and removes stress.

Overall Social media has cons and pros for teens. I personally believe that if teenagers use social media more efficiently there would not be any complaint, advanced technology is the future and would help up and coming, young adult.

Both Hardi and Agard present conflict affecting feelings about a place. At the border and the flag presents the idea the war can affect an individual feeling their homes. This is demonstrating through a range of features in both poem with varying effect.

The protagonist wants to go home and is relived that war is now over whilst on the flag, it talks about the roots and causes of conflict and Agard is questioning whether, the flag represents about the country or does it symbolise the military. Agard uses repetitive question in the poem Agard question himself and then answer the question himself. On the other hand the poet is focusing on migration, she left Iraq and entered Kurdistan, shes returning back to Iraq on the fourth stanza it quotes ‘ My mother informed me; we are going back home’ It was joyful event to return back to there homeland because a man bent down and kissed his homeland. Hardi poem was in first person however Agard poem was in second person. Agard uses repetition each stanza has ‘just’ it effects our understanding, the reason why Agard used ‘Just’ because the flag was not a major deal in society however people are still killing each other just because of a cloth. Hardi using repetition of adverbs here symbolisms the mother’s view of home as a much better place than wherever it is they have came from.

Hardi presents flag as a human being by using personification saying that a flag has control over human beings cause it is instructing them and the humans are obeying by the rules. Alliteration
