In the opening play of Macbeth, Macbeth demonstrates his emotions when the three witches told him his future. Macbeth was in disbelief and was shocked this is represented ‘Stay, you imperfect speakers, tell me more; I know I am thane of Glamis; But how of Cowder? the thane of Cawdor lives, A prosperous gentleman; and to be king Stands not within the prospect of belief’ The quote creates a sense of confusion and Macbeth is finding it hard to cope with all the information he’s been told. The use of question marks presents confusion because a part of him is deceiving him to believe in the witches however the other side is convincing him not to trust in the witches. The quote show Macbeth as an honourable protagonists because Macbeth has respect for King Duncan and shows how strong the King and Macbeth bond is. Shakespeare messages were to show that does not matter how perfect a human is, all humans has a weakness.

Macbeth emotion differs from Scrooge. Scrooge, on the other hand, is more depressed and arrogant the reason for this is because he does not favour the Christmas. The novelist creates an imagery about Scrooges behaviour towards other people, it’s presented ‘ I wish to be left alone,” said Scrooge….. “If they would rather die, ” said Scrooge, ” they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population’ The quote creates an emotion of sinfulness and lack of sympathy. The novelist describes Scrooge as a cold-hearted protagonist at the beginning of the novella. Loneliness was an integral part of the quote, Scrooge was a lonely character because he distanced everyone away from him and loneliness was a key part of his extreme emotions. Charles Dickens wanted to demonstrate that loneliness can have a serve effect which can change your emotions quickly. Charles Dickens also wanted to show that spending money on necessary things shows a good attitude.

The emotion from both protagonists is quite similar in many ways. Both character emotions are gloomy. Macbeth is now in a vulnerable state of mind, the flashback is making it difficult for Macbeth to control his emotions and thoughts this is illustrated when Macbeth saw a Dagger ‘Is this Dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still… art thou but A dagger of the mind, a false creation, Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain? Macbeth attempt to control his emotions and thought has evaporated, Macbeth is suffering from depression. The dagger has posses, Macbeth. Macbeth is struggling to cope with the demands. Macbeth emotions are shown clearly in the quote, he is demoralized and main attention is on that dagger. Shakespeare describes the dagger as if it’s a God brainwashing Macbeth.

Macbeth emotions are unrelated with Scrooge. Scrooge behaviour is starting to develop because the protagonist is not lonely. Scrooge’s heart is starting to see light. Marley’s ghost has opened up Scrooge and now he seems to be more interested. ‘Scrooge was very much dismayed to hear the spectre going on at this rate, and began to quake exceedingly. “hear me!” cried Marley’s Ghost. “My time is nearly gone.” “I will” said Scrooge. “But don’t be hard-upon me! Don’t be flowery, Jacob! Pray!” The quote foreshadows Scrooges emotions later on the novella. It characterizes that Scrooge is opening his eyes and his behaviour and attitude is slightly changing. Scrooge begins to accept Marley’s Ghost slightly. This quote foreshadows later what is going to happen in the novella, the use exclamation mark express the emotions of Marley’s Ghost and the protagonist. Charles Dickens wanted to demonstrate that you can not take your fame and fortune when you die.

Both Protagonist emotions are diverse which is expressed differently, Scrooge sadness is turning to happiness. Whilst Macbeth is in a tunnel pit where he is stuck and there is no escape. Macbeth is in a sticky situation. Guilt and hatred have overpowered Macbeth, it seems as if Macbeth does not care about his relationship With Banquo this is demonstrated ‘O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife! Thou know’st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives…. What must be done? The metaphor was used in the quote it describes the emotion running through Macbeth. You can see all the unfavourable emotions taking control of him. Macbeth has lost his mind all the dignity that Macbeth claim is now hidden. The quote display Macbeth Behaviour, he does not have an affectionate feeling for others. Now we now that Macbeth is selfish and inconsiderate and cares about himself. Shakespeare message was to show that greed is a powerful source of emotion. Fame and money have the influence, Shakespeare wanted to show that a piece of Money has dominion over people.

The emotions of both protagonists were expressed differently Macbeth is showing shadowy emotions, on the other hand, Scrooge is feeling the opposite. Scrooge emotions are beginning to lighten up. Now Scrooge realizes that he has been misguided with the wrong attitude. Scrooge begins to become sober because he remembers his past. The present Scrooge has reflected on his past character and he knows that he was wrong this is represented ‘ spirit,” said Scrooge, shuddering from head to foot. “I see, I see. The case of this unhappy man might be my own. My life tends that way, now. Merciful Heaven, what is this?” the quote shows Scrooge as a more heartbroken protagonist. Scrooge has become more vigilant of his behaviour. Scrooge was Shuddering it represent that Scrooge at that moment was determined to make a change. Scrooge was pleading and begging it shows how desperate Scrooge wanted to change. Charles Dickens wanted to communicate that being rich is not as important as being happy and the happiness is found by helping others.

The emotions of both protagonists are separated differently, the emotions of each are opposite to each other. The further in the novella of Scrooge we begin to see happiness inside him. On the other hand the side of Macbeth we begin to see darkness. Macbeth has given up on life, Macbeth knows he’s target and he is going to perish. All the guilt and impatience came to nothing at the end this is demonstrated ‘Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing. The quote uses metaphor to describe that life is not worth living for. Macbeth has come to a conclusion and has given up on life. Macbeth has taken the time to reflect on the deed he has done and now it has come to haunt him. It was as if this was meant to happen to Macbeth. Shakespeare wanted the audience to feel sympathy for Macbeth at the same time hate on Macbeth as well. Shakespeare wanted to communicate to the audience that you should not let greed get the best out of you.

The emotions of Macbeth is more unfavourable it’s like Macbeth is trapped in a well and can not escape whilst Scrooge has Escaped from the darkness. Scrooge now has a positive vibe toward others. Scrooge is now more friendly because he has realize that his past attitude was wrong. Scrooge begins to realise you do not get happiness from money however spending to with the family, happiness comes from true love and family. This is demonstrated “A merry Christmas, Bob,” said Scrooge with an earnestness that could not be mistaken, as he clapped him on the back. ” A merrier Christmas, Bob, my good fellow, than I have given you for many a year. I’ll raise your salary, and endeavour to assist your struggling family, ” The quote shows true love and happiness it seems that Scrooge is happier than ever. Scrooge knows the meaning of happiness and is using his fortune for good and not for bad. Charles Dickens represent Scrooge as a joyful man. Charles Dickens message was to show the importance of sharing because it can turn your life around. Money is not what a makes a person happy. Charles Dickens wants people to change and now the importance of over people.

Compare the way hero’s flaws are presented in Macbeth and Scrooge

The opening play of Macbeth, Macbeth is not presented as a flawed character. Macbeth was fearless and courageous in the bloody battles which he thought in. He was adored and admired by King Duncan and other people. Macbeth fellow compatriots described him as a hero because he stood out in the war and was unbeatable. On the other hand, Macbeth has a dark side, he terrorized his enemies with no remorse and sympathy, which made him heartless. Captain describes Macbeth as a warrior:

“Yes as sparrows eagles, or the hart won”

The use of similes is used to describe how powerful Macbeth was and, his enemies were petrified of his presence and did not want to touch Macbeth in the battlefield. Animals were used in the quote as well and this portraits that Macbeth was a fearless soldier, the use of ‘sparrows eagles’  demonstrate that he was like a ‘God’ in the battlefield, and he was superior as a sparrow eagle and had the strength and vision of the creature. Macbeth was praised for his bravery because he fought in two bloody battles, and still had the rush of adrenaline in both battles and at the start of the opening play it signify’s that Macbeth has no weakness to him.

The opening play of Macbeth and Scrooge, both characters were not characterised the same and had different flaws. Macbeth was portrayed differently, he was a courageous soldier who fought and risked his life for his beloved Country. Macbeth was a bald person and, Macbeth had affectionate passions for others around him.Whilst Scrooge at the opening of the novella was soulless and heartless and did not care about others around him, apart from his self. Scrooge had hatred for the festive season and was grumpy. This is demonstrated when Scrooge was in his office and publicise his feelings towards Christmas and love:

“Because you feel in love!’ growled Scrooge as if that were the only thing in the world more ridiculous than a merry Christmas”

The quote demonstrates Scrooge emotions towards love and Christmas and it’s a negative view of the festive season. Scrooge has a hatred of Christmas and this present Scrooge as a stubborn character who does not want to change his attitude also, Scrooge does not know that what he is doing is wrong. The adjective ‘ridiculous’ was used in the text and it emphasis Scrooge reaction and feelings. The adjective makes the reader understand that Scrooge is furious and does not want to be troubled in any sort of way. The quote is there to make the reader jump into to conclusion about Scrooge that he has no affectionate emotions, and Scrooge can not see with his own naked eye that what he is doing is wrong. Dickens present Scrooge as a downhearted character to create a negative persona. Charles Dickens wanted to represent the trouble poor Victorians had to face in the Victorian era especially the ‘debt prisoners’

In Macbeth soliloquy from reading, we’ve seen a different image of him. Macbeth has two crucial decision which is going to test his strength and mentality. The moment the witches visualised the future to Macbeth that he is going to be ‘Thane Of Cawdor’ Macbeth starts to have second thoughts. The soliloquy represents Macbeth flaws starting to creep in. At the start of the play Macbeth was a warrior, however; as we get further into the play, we start to see Macbeth weakness. Macbeth is easily manipulated because his wife was persuading him to kill King Duncan the man who admire and respected Macbeth. This soliloquy shows a weak link to Macbeth. He is easily tempted and now he has two decision to make which can be crucial. Macbeth shows his emotions towards King Duncan because he knows he would be doing wrong if he killed King Duncan. Macbeth is confused this is demonstrated:

“Will plead like angels, trumpet-tongued, against the deep damnation of his taking off; And pity, like a naked newborn babe”

The quote uses a smile to represent how loved King Duncan was by his own people and now Macbeth knows if he assassinates King Duncan it would terrorise him forever and the citizen that adored King Duncan. Macbeth knows it’s a wrong thing to do. The quote gives the reader a hint about Macbeth decision and that Macbeth has already made the decision. Imagery present Macbeth admiration towards King Duncan. Macbeth loved King Duncan as if he was his own father. On the other hand, Macbeth knew that King Duncan loved him as if he was his own son. Shakespeare present Macbeth as a heroic character and now has turned into a vulnerable character and this is affecting Macbeth thinking because it is brainwashing him and he has no control over himself. This is presenting the divine right of kings.

When Scrooge sees Marley Ghost we still recognize his flaws and still is an inconsiderate character and does not change his behaviour compared to Macbeth. Macbeth attitude changes when he saw the witches which made him become vulnerable and his personality changed. Scrooge did not take into consideration of what Marley Ghost was telling him, this demonstrates that Scrooge does not believe in the supernatural. Scrooge was still stubborn and does not accept what he is doing is wrong because Scrooge is thinking the opposite and Scrooge thinks his behaviour is correct. Scrooge is a meaningful and arrogant this is demonstrated:

“I have but to swallow and be for the rest of my days persecuted by legion of goblins, all of my own creation, humbug I tell you humbug!”

The quote suggests that it’s not going to be at all easy to change Scrooge, and he still would not change his personality.  Scrooge does not take into consideration what Marley Ghost has told him because Scrooge does not believe Marley Ghost Vision. The quote represents that Scrooge is still a flawed character. The exclamation mark portrays Scrooge Behavior and attitude towards Marley Ghost, that he’s not welcomed and is furious that Marley Ghost has appeared. Scrooge just wants peace and quiet. The exclamation mark also shows that Scrooge is also stubborn. Scrooge uses the word ‘Humbug’ to represent that he inconsiderate and ungrateful and ‘humbug’ shows his true colours in the opening of the novella. The quote plays a part in Scrooge behaviour and shows how flawed Scrooge is at the beginning of the novella. Dickens present Scrooge-like this to demonstrate that it’s difficult to change a nasty person personality. That it’s a long-term effect for a person to change their behaviour.

The further we read into the play we start to recognize that Macbeth becomes more flawed, and we start to image his weakness. Macbeth feelings have dramatically changed the moment the witches said a key point, which changed him and his close ones. Macbeth from a brave warrior to a fragile warrior. Macbeth knows he has done wrong, however; he does not show on the outside but inside it’s affecting him severely. Macbeth is terrified to murder his best friend ‘Banquo’ which shows a faint side of him at the point of the play, but Macbeth still wants Banquo murder and this demonstrating his weakness. This shows that Macbeth is selfish and does not care about others apart from himself. Macbeth was able to kill his enemies without hesitation but, he’s not able to kill his number one threat which shows he still has feelings towards Banquo. Macbeth just wants fame and glory and so this means he would do anything for him to climb up the ladder and achieve his so-called ambition. The moment Macbeth heard about the prophecy the witches said there has been a downward spiral between Macbeth and Banquo, the vision has made Macbeth more cautious.

“Masking the business from the common eye for sundry weighty reason”

This demonstrates Macbeth as a coward because he is hiding his real plans so the public does not judge him. Macbeth knows what he did was evil but he still wants to reach his goals. That  is why he’s sending two assassins to do the work for him so people do not discriminate Macbeth. Macbeth wanted to be a brilliant King to the public eye but, inside him, he knows he has not achieved that goal. The quote shows that Macbeth is flawed. Shakespeare describes Macbeth as a selfish and coward character to show that he is easily tempted by others even though he knows it’s wrong. Shakespeare wanted the audience to see Macbeth as a floored character.

Towards the end of the novella, we begin to see a massive difference between both characters. Firstly the further we get in the play we start to see Macbeth flaws like Scrooge at the start of the novella. On the other hand, we start to see a change in behaviour about Scrooge and that he was not the same person from the beginning of the novella. Both characters have chosen different paths, the path which Macbeth has chosen has affected him severely in different ways and has brainwashed Macbeth. Macbeth just wants to accomplish his ambitions. Scrooge has seen the true colours of his behaviour and changed immensely, which has made him a better character. Scrooge at the start of the play was an inconsiderate and a character with no personality, however, as we explore further in the novella Scrooge flaws begins to disappear, this is demonstrated:

“Spirit ” he cried, tight clutching on its robe. “hear me! I am not the man I was… why show me this, if I am past all hope?”

The use of rhetorical question demonstrates that Scrooge is petrified and now knows his ways, Scrooge is scared to see his past and now we can see that Scrooge does not want to become the same man that he was at the start of the novella. Scrooge is terrified of what the ghost told him and it had a server dramatic trauma on him. The exclamation represents Scrooge fears and knows the audience are able to know Scrooge fear towards the end of the novella. The exclamation Mark shows that Scrooge was ‘Shouting’ and was scared about the future vision the ghost told him. Compared to when Scrooge saw Marley Ghost, Scrooge did not believe one single word that came out from his mouth because back then he was ungrateful. Scrooges personality has developed and now Scrooge knows the bad and good. This was a test to show Scrooge mentality if he was pretending to have a good attitude, however; Scrooge has Changed behaviour. Charles Dickens uses Scrooge as an example to show that there’s always a time and space to change and it is never too late to change. The message was aimed at wealthy people in the Victorian era.

Macbeth Character flaws are presented in the final act a devastating dramatic end, Scrooges flaws have dramatically changed, from the start of the novella Scrooge was an ignorant man as we scan further in the novella Scrooge begins to change. On the other hand, Macbeth is totally floored, and all the sins he has committed came to hunt him, and it has affected Macbeth severely. Macbeth has begun to feel resignation and now Macbeth has given up on life because all that he fought for was nothing but a single piece of paper. Macbeth has now regretted the deed that he’s done. Every important person in Macbeth life has evaporated and now Macbeth has no strength to fight anymore. Macbeth has given up this is demonstrated:

“She should have died hereafter”

The quote portrays Macbeth has no strength to fight because he knows the battle has been lost. The most important person in his life has died and this is disturbing Macbeth. This represents Macbeth flaws and that Macbeth is nothing without his beloved wife and also, his wife had a huge influence on his decision to do what he has done. Macbeth has now realized and seen the wicked he has done to others around him this is said:

“Out, Out brief candle life’s but a walking shadow”

Imagery was used in the quote to describe Macbeth describing life as a candle that flickers, meaning that life is short and you only live once. Macbeth life has degraded and gone downhill and everyone has turned their back on him and Macbeth is now hopeless. Karma has happened to Macbeth. Shakespeare wanted the audience to feel sympathy for Macbeth even though he’s done evil sins also hatred at the same time. Macbeth regrets what he has done.

As the novella reaches its final point Macbeth and Scrooge seemed to be contrasted differently. Macbeth flaws are completely different from Scrooge. Macbeth was a character that had no flaws at the beginning of the play however, his flaws start to develop and now he is stuck in a sand pit and Macbeth is totally floored. Contrast to Scrooge, Scrooge was a floored character at the beginning of the novella a selfish and disgusting person. As we read through the novella we start to see a change in Scrooge and his flaws is gradually disappearing. What the Witches came to accomplished for Macbeth was successful, that he would become King but it was not the way the witches suspected. Whilst what the three ghost came to achieve, they achieve because now Scrooge is a new man. As we reach the denouement, we see that Scrooge personal behaviour has changed this demonstrated:

“I’ll raise your salary, and endeavor to assist your struggling family”

The ghost has changed Scrooge attitude, and now knows the meaning of Christmas. The quote creates an image of Scrooge behaviour at the beginning of the novella and over time he has developed into a mature character towards the end of the novella. The event was placed at the end of the novella to reinforce the message to the more developed people in the Victorian era, that it is never too late to change your behaviour, and they should be more joyful in the festive season because the festive season is about love and people joining together in one harmony. Shakespeare wanted to demonstrate that it’s not ideal to change from a warrior to do evil because, later the evil that you have done would come and haunt you, no matter how cautious you are.

Writing to respond

Dear Ms Samantha Taylor,

I do not agree with Franzen’s overall ideas about teenagers and their reliance on social media; it’s not corrupting our future generations. However, I do believe teenagers are sometimes reliant on it. Yes, there is a danger of addiction but it is part of the modern society and needs to be worked with.

In the modern IT business world, social media is the king. Youths have the courage to express themselves when they’re facing the screen, however, they do not express themselves with the same fluency in their everyday lives. Popular Social Media website such as; Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram etc, have a negative effect. Teenagers are often not using the social media websites appropriately. The popular media website are what makes elders express their views quickly and I personally think some of them are judging the book by its cover too quickly. Teenagers these days do things without thinking, and personally that causes a lot of chaos. There are plenty of negative views because of cyber bullying and its huge ripple effect. Youths are contemplating suicide and it is a growing problem. In some cases, teenagers are afraid of the outside world because they are not as popular on social media compared to the real world. I personally think boys find it easier to communicate with girls when they’re face to face on a screen, but it seems that boys are scared to do what they do on social media and use their confidence to talk to girls face to face. This proves if you use social media it can become very addictive.

Some adults believe Teenagers are unable to function and multi-task, and social media in some way distracts teenagers from concentrating on the more necessary things. Social media has a servere effect on the future generation. Many of my friends waste their hours looking at new gossip and unnecessary things. A lot of adults have negative views about social media because it’s affecting the future generation even though teenagers are not using social media properly. Currently, in this century youths are focusing more on famous people and trying to act more like them. This makes them lazy because all they want to achieve is money and fame. Teenagers want to take the easier route to reach their goal knowing that it’s never going to happen. Rarely, this generation is not willing to put their sweat and blood to achieve their goals. Which makes them docile.

The modern technology is simple and advanced, adults should realize that there are cons about social media. Everyday social network is advancing and is becoming more useful. Advanced technology is the way forward. Teens would be able to do homework on social media because they would be more interacted by doing revision and completing homework. The most important thing is, it’s free to use and no charges are included, the future generation is more advance in the new technology business and this is a positive advantage. There is so much variety and option on social media, which can educate the teens to excel to their expectation. The adults should not rush into conclusion about media channels, however, open their eyes to see the digital world and see that it would help teenagers significantly. Teenagers are able to express themselves on communication channels which are beneficial, therefore, they are not scared to hide behind their couch. Teenagers would find it a lot harder to feel embarrass, and step at a time the young adults would find it easier to express their true colours in the outside world. Another con is it’s easier to keep in touch with family and friends for free, especially if they live a distance away from you. Social media can help you to relax and removes stress.

Overall Social media has cons and pros for teens. I personally believe that if teenagers use social media more efficiently there would not be any complaint, advanced technology is the future and would help up and coming, young adult.

Both Hardi and Agard present conflict affecting feelings about a place. At the border and the flag presents the idea the war can affect an individual feeling their homes. This is demonstrating through a range of features in both poem with varying effect.

The protagonist wants to go home and is relived that war is now over whilst on the flag, it talks about the roots and causes of conflict and Agard is questioning whether, the flag represents about the country or does it symbolise the military. Agard uses repetitive question in the poem Agard question himself and then answer the question himself. On the other hand the poet is focusing on migration, she left Iraq and entered Kurdistan, shes returning back to Iraq on the fourth stanza it quotes ‘ My mother informed me; we are going back home’ It was joyful event to return back to there homeland because a man bent down and kissed his homeland. Hardi poem was in first person however Agard poem was in second person. Agard uses repetition each stanza has ‘just’ it effects our understanding, the reason why Agard used ‘Just’ because the flag was not a major deal in society however people are still killing each other just because of a cloth. Hardi using repetition of adverbs here symbolisms the mother’s view of home as a much better place than wherever it is they have came from.

Hardi presents flag as a human being by using personification saying that a flag has control over human beings cause it is instructing them and the humans are obeying by the rules. Alliteration

Out Of The Blue

The poem is about the chaotic scene that happened in America, twin towers got blown apart by terrorist, which was called 9/11. The poet is trying to let free however the poet is trapped, the poet is trying to signal people to rescue me but no one seems to see the poet.

The use of repetition in the poem, has a meaning, the poem states when it says ‘waving’ it meant that he is trapped. The poet is waving his hands to get attention for someone to help him escape the tragedy. The poem that he’s not able to gain any ones attention. The poet was constantly waving for support however no one addressed him because never saw.  Another use of repetition was used ‘watching’ the poet is desperate for someone to see them suffering. The poet question himself  when it says when will you come? The poet is questioning himself wondering if anyone would free him. Enjambment was used in the third stanza when it quotes ‘ A man shaking crumbs or pegging out washing?’ as well as enjambment the poet again used an rhetorical question.

The poem is in first person, therefore the poet put himself in that position witnessing twin towers get bombed whilst the poet was in the building. The poet made himself terrified, the poet is scared knowing that they would die cause there is no where else to go.

Hawk Roosting

The Hawk roosting conflict is about a hawk described as a powerful creator, who has more authority than god. The use of metaphor makes the hawk seem dominant and dynamic. The word roosting meant that the hawk was relaxed meaning he did not fear no other creation. The poem demonstrate the hawk as powerful and deadly, and does not regret killing it’s prey. The hawk practise killing its prey because its good at attacking and killing. Even when the hawk is sleeping it dreams about assassinating its prey. Nature is helping the hawk when it quotes ‘ My feet are locked upon the rough bark’ The hawk is locked physically ready to bounce the target is locked.’ The convenience of the high trees the airs buoyancy and sun rays’  The hawk is arrogant and thinks its better than the creator when it phase ‘ Now I hold creation in my foot’ the hawk think its capable of doing anything. The bird has locked down in position its unstoppable. ‘It took the whole of creation to produce my foot ‘ the state suggest that was made in the image of god however the hawk is portrayed better than god itself. The hawk mimic power of creation and nature.

Comparing poetry

At the border and Belfast confetti present how conflict can affect feelings about a place. The poet presents the idea of war which can affect feelings towards people. This is expresses through unnecessary features used in the poem.

First of all the poem at the border, the poem expresses home as a missed wonderland. The poem explains when a man bent down and kissed his muddy land, which is seen in the last stanza. The poem explains the country that immigrating back too as a peaceful and wonderful land with cleaner roads as well as the landscape and a neater country. The use of adverbs describes a clear understanding of their homeland and also that it is better than the country where she left. The poet is focusing on migration, she left Iraq and entered Kurdistan, she’s returning back to Iraq the fourth stanza shows when her mother informed her, say we are going home. It was a joyless experience. The use of repetition represents her mother feeling more at home because, the roads are much cleaner and the landscape is more beautiful.

On the other hand. Belfast confetti, the poem expresses a devastating war because one nation are fighting over political and religious problems. The poem is in the middle of a conflict it present the poet trying to escape. The poem explains how destructive the conflict is, which is seen in all the stanza when the poem used punctuation, the poet could not complete his sentence because he was petrified of the chaotic seen which the poet is witnessing.Any corners he turns he just witnessing a battle. A use of nouns was used in the first stanza Nuts, bolts, nails, car-keys which was a list of weapons used in the civil war. The poet is trying to escape however he’s finding it difficult to escape.

Come On, Come Back

The first stanza set the scene for Vaudevue’s death, when the first stanza says ‘Left by the ebbing tide of battle’ it display that Vaudevue was left behind in the battlefield. She also sat alone on a flat stone. The language used in the stanza was repetition when it quotes ‘ she is ‘  when the poet uses the word ‘ she is ‘ he describes what Vaudevue is doing.

Features of the poem which portrays with the idea that the war has taken place in the future, when the poet added ‘ Incident in a future war’ which gives us a signal that the poem could be based on the future as well as when the poet state ‘ M.L.5 ‘ suggest that it was set in the future. At the present moment the word ‘ M.L.5 ‘ does not exist. M.L.5 is a weapon that can take someone memory, the weapon has a terrible affect on humans.

Techniques used in the poem were repetition ‘ alone ‘ and ‘ she is ‘ was used in the first stanza. The use of the repetition of alone it makes her vunrelable and fragile.

The Right Word the poet by Imtiaz Dharker born in Pakistan however brought up in Scotland- a British citizen. The poem is about language and identity how we see and judge other people by their appearance and how people may see and label themselves. The first stanza is about her witnessing a shadow and she assumed it was a terrorist. After the 9/11 terrorism Asia and other ethnic minorities has been targeted with the word terrorism which is racist and hypercritical. The word racism is based on religion because terrorist would always claim that their extremist Muslim. Another powerful word in the first stanza was when she quoted ‘lurking’ which is linking with shadow the word lurking is a verb and when Imatiaz Dharker it meant something that the boy was acting strange. If the boy was lurking it meant that her community was not united as one they were sparsely separated. Imatiaz Dharker was not secure in her own area knowing that a boy is just lurking and roaming in the area.

The second stanza is link to the the first stanza when Imatiaz Dharker question herself were she quoted ‘Is that a wrong description?’ of when she called the boy a terrorist because of his appearance.  She reflected on what she just implicated and knew she was wrong.

IGCSE Writing to Describe – What’s Out There?

I was alone in a huge remote room with the window slightly opened and the chill breeze creating mysterious sounds, I saw a damp shadow of an odd like creature lurking in the corner. My only safe zone was my bed! I had a basic patterned white wallpaper but this time, the wallpaper was playing tricks with my mind. Out of the blue, my emotions changed instantly. I kept telling myself I’m safe; in my own house but my mind disagreed. I couldn’t erase it from my head… That feeling.

I was trying my hardest to return to my pleasant sleep however, I found it rather quite complicated. All alone in the house my senses were alert for dangers, my first thought was to not target my focal point on the mirror which was facing the opposite direction. My desire to urinate was irresistible it was like me pleading for chicken wings.

The night was silent nothing supernatural has been seen so far with my naked eye, I needed company because I was alone in a remote room. Within second this irritating sound was continuously repetitive, the aftermath was brainwashing my concentration, and my concentration became fragile and powerless every time I heard the sound. My body vibrated with anxiety, anytime I heard the hollow sound, it became heavy.

I observed my room to find any object I could use as a weapon for my own protection. Right beside me was my teddy bear looking less and less like a weapon every time I looked at it. What frightened me was the eyes. I focused my attention on the bear’s eyes; the blackness drew me in as I kept staring I began to see demonic things. I swiftly scanned the room to check if those images were real, what I witness was intense, there were demons looking like a goat with sharp, crusty horns and muscular goat legs. I was lost for words because its appearance was repulsive. Then it disappeared from its eyes and the eyes turned back to the way I saw it.

The more frightened I became the more violent, the pain in my bladder became, and my aim was to not urinate on my bed. My centre of attention was the hallucination I’ve been seeing in the bears black, looming eyes. Despite everything around me, my stomach was eager for the pleasure of food.

I had to overcome my terror, my ears were alert for any hint of danger. I heard the bristles from the wind but the beat was out of sync. An enormous bang jarred my senses, I was trembling with fear. I grabbed my teddy bear, strangling his legs. The resounding bang lingered in my mind it was battling against my sanity, which left my mind fragile. The need to urinate was becoming desperate, my urine was circulating the premises trying to look for an escape route.

I knew I had to be courageous, there was two option either go toilet or urinate on the bed.  I stepped out of bed, the hard smooth floor was chilling, and when my foot touched the floor my face expression was frozen. I was searching for my slippers, all the fear just took control of my body. Inside me could sense danger. I was frightened to search in my wardrobe for my slippers, cause I could Imagine a hideous beast waiting for my arrival.

I forgot about what I was looking for but all I could hear is the hideous sound…..

The breeze became much more irritating and the intensity was discomforting and sending a chill into the room, I froze to death for a minute, the agony and fear was getting to me, I felt uncomfortable by that hollow and mysterious sound ‘ who are you ‘ I barked no response all I heard was the same sound. I grappled my teddy pointing it forward to the direction I’m heading. The way I sprinted to the toilet was as if I was being chased by an out of control dog, dodging all opposing obstacles. When I arrived at my destination I locked myself in the toilet, I was so relieved the anxiety and fright had all vanish into thin air. That’s when I knew I made it.
